Turkish soldiers arrested Ali Vali (17 years old) from the Ad-Darbasiyah district of Al-Jazira Canton, while he was trying to cross to Europe via Turkey on June 22, 2023, in the Qawsar district of Merdin, with the motive of searching for treatment for his sister who suffers from autism. He was imprisoned in Merdin prison for 6 months. He was imprisoned in Erzurum Type (L) for 3 months. He was released on March 12, and was kidnapped in front of the prison gate.

Several days after his kidnapping, a number of people contacted his family and introduced themselves as members of the Turkish intelligence services, speaking in Turkish and Arabic. According to the family, these people sent scenes of Wali’s torture and asked the family members to spy for them.

They called the family from a phone number belonging to a Turkish company, so the family recorded the call, during which Ali Wali first speaks to his mother and translates the threats directed at him into Kurdish. Ali Wali says in the audio recording that he is detained in Syria, but he does not know where exactly. They also threaten him in Arabic and demand that his father spy for them.

After the news spread in Northern Kurdistan, the Human Rights Association (ÎHD) began following up on the case, and according to Mesopotamia News Agency, the association’s lawyers in Merdin approached the prosecution regarding the incident, but they have not yet received any response.

Ali Wali's mother, Najma Musa, reported that none of the kidnappers had communicated with them since they received the video clip in which their son was being tortured and the kidnappers threatened them. She stated that they were worried about their son's life, and called on human rights organizations to help them find him.
