CPJ files Urgent Action to UN on disappearance of journalist Suleiman

CPJ announced in a statement that it had sent an urgent request to the United Nations Committee, demanding the release of journalist Suleiman Ahmed, who has been kidnapped by KDP authorities since November 25, 2023.

The Committee to Protect Journalists CPJ revealed in a statement that it had sent an urgent request to the United Nations Committee on Enforced Disappearances, on April 12, in coordination with the MENA Human Rights Group, in which it demanded the release of journalist Suleiman Ahmed.

The committee stated in the statement: “After journalist Suleiman Ahmed visited his family and relatives in Syria and during his return, he was kidnapped in southern Kurdistan, and the authorities still refuse to reveal his fate or clarify the charges against him, if any.”

CPJ noted, “According to statistics, 3 journalists, including Suleiman Ahmed, were kidnapped by the authorities of southern Kurdistan and face an unknown fate inside their prisons.”
