The families of the Shengal Resistance Units fighters, who were captured by the Iraqi army during its attack on the Shengal Resistance Units on March 18, sent an urgent appeal to international human rights organizations and the fourteen countries that officially recognized the Yazidi massacres as genocide, demanding the release of their sons.

And it was stated in the text of the message:

"In the twenty-first century, specifically on August 3, 2014, our people were subjected to the 74th massacre, which claimed thousands of lives, while the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army fled, leaving our children to their tragic fate. The Shengal Resistance Units and the Women's Protection Units were the only shields that stood against ISIS, sacrificing their lives to protect the dignity and culture of our people."

On March 18, the province of Shengal witnessed an attack by the Iraqi army forces, who captured 5 fighters from the Shengal Resistance Units, who were at the forefront of defending their land and people against the terrorism of ISIS. This attack is considered a blatant assault on the dignity and rights of our community members, accusing them of baseless charges that do not align with the Yazidi religion and its beliefs, serving political agendas that have no connection to the truth. It is a clear targeting of the will of the Yazidis and an attempt to break their resolve after all they have endured from ongoing massacres and genocides that have not yet ended.

If the Iraqi army had launched such an attack against ISIS, the Yazidi community would not have suffered that massacre. On the contrary, today they are forgiving those criminals who committed massacres against the Yazidi community.

The Iraqi army is launching attacks on our Yazidi sons who fought against ISIS and have been protecting the region for 10 years. Our forces protect Shengal and its inhabitants, including Yazidis, Arabs, and Shiites. The tragedy of the 2014 massacre against Yazidi women, children, and the Yazidi community continues, with thousands of our women and children kidnapped without us knowing their fate.

We demand that international organizations and the 14 countries work to release our sons and end the crisis that the Yazidi community is suffering from.

On March 18, the Iraqi army launched an attack on the Shengal Protection Units, resulting in the injury of several fighters and the capture of five others. This attack sparked widespread outrage among the local population, who organized a series of protest activities condemning the assault.
