Explaining co-presidency system to 1,700 People

In late May, women's organizations across North and East Syria and Aleppo, with the sponsorship of the Zenobia Women's Gathering and the Star Conference, initiated a series of conferences and forums on the co-presidency system. The purpose was to introduce the outcomes of applying this system in North and East Syria since 2014 and to promote awareness of it among the community.

The activities included the first conference in Raqqa on 27 July, followed by a series of conferences and forums in Aleppo, Qamishli, Hasakah, al-Shaddadi, and Tal Tamr. The event was attended by approximately 1,700 women and men from nearby cities and towns, along with co-chairs, administrators, members, politicians, and Protection Forces representatives.

Exchange of Experiences and Sharing of Expertise

The conferences entailed experience-sharing and sharing the experience of the Autonomous Administration during the past 12 years. The results demonstrated how the system of co-presidency strengthens the will and power of women, solidifies the values of equality, justice, and freedom, fights the patriarchal mode of thinking, and is a successful democratic model.

Results and Suggestions:

The second and most important point of these events was the analysis and suggestions for the future. All the conferences and forums emphasized the success of the co-presidency model in North and East Syria as a central pillar for building a democratic society, calling for its realization in all Syrian regions.

The importance of making people aware of this system was also brought to the fore through training sessions for all sections of society, for coping with male superiority and patriarchal beliefs regarding women.

The co-presidency system was referred to as an elementary step towards the establishment of a political and moral nation, with a proposal to organize workshops and opening courses on the subject of "Women, Life, Freedom" to combine the values of freedom and equality.

It was proposed to form a committee to monitor the results of these activities, while continuous forums and conferences are organized somewhere else in the region.
