The European Union said today that reports of foreign ISIS mercenaries escaping detention in Syria are a source of “serious concern,” adding that it is observing their transfer to Iraq.

EU spokesperson Anwar Al-Anouni said, “The recent potential escapes of ISIS detainees amid clashes are a matter of serious concern. We are closely monitoring the situation, including the transfer of the remaining detained fighters to Iraq, including foreign terrorist fighters.”
