Energy Authority in DAA: Tishreen Dam in Danger

The Authority confirmed that these attacks pose a serious threat to the dam's infrastructure, which could lead to major humanitarian and environmental disasters.

This came in a statement by the co-chair of the Authority, Ziad Rustum, at the Tishreen Dam site, where he indicated that the attacks that have been ongoing for two months have caused severe damage, including power outages to the dam and rising water levels in the lower parts to dangerous levels. Rustum added: "The continuation of these attacks is the greatest evidence of targeting civilian facilities that serve all Syrians."

The statement explained that about 5 million people depend on Tishreen Dam water for drinking, in addition to 200,000 hectares of agricultural land that depend on its water for irrigation. The Authority warned that the collapse of the dam would deprive these areas of water, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.

The Authority indicated that technical teams are working around the clock to avoid the collapse of the dam, but stressed that the ongoing bombing threatens the integrity of its structure. The Authority also criticized the silence of the international community and the Syrian authorities in Damascus towards these attacks, calling for urgent measures to stop the attacks and protect the dam.

It is noteworthy that Tishreen Dam is one of the most important water facilities in northern Syria, and the attacks of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries on it continue despite repeated warnings of their disastrous consequences for the entire region.
