Arabo: Regional challenges require Kurdish unity beyond party differences

There are important developments taking place in the Middle East under the management of international and regional forces, which directly impact the existence and will of the Kurds. It is essential to evaluate these developments and take necessary actions for improved coordination and dialogue among the Kurds."

In this regard, Abd al-Ilah Arabo, a leading member of the diplomatic relations of Rojava, said that events in the Middle East are accelerating day by day, and every development affects all countries in the region, stressing that the Kurdish people across Kurdistan are directly impacted by everything that is happening.

Arabo pointed out that between the U.S.-Israeli conflict on one hand and Iran on the other, there is a sort of interaction, and both sides have a route that each tries to take, and there is another route taken by some other Middle Eastern states. Arabo added that the crossing of these routes leads to “ideological and political conflict.” For example, he mentioned that the United States and Israel formed certain military groups in order to control what takes place in Iran and dominate the sources of energy.

Concerning the Kurdish line, he said, “The Kurds have got a certain route in terms of the ideas of their leader, Abdullah Ocalan; therefore, the political movement of Rojava was carried out based on consensus.” Arabo also mentioned that the agreement reached between the interim government of Syria and Israel in the presence of Turkey in France was against the interest of the Kurds and sought to destroy “the military and political forces and accomplishments of the Kurds.”

He explained that: “Turkey was the main planner behind this deal, after which, attacks were carried out against the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh regions of Aleppo, despite the agreement that was reached between the councils of the regions and the government. Following that, they targeted our areas.”

Unity in service to the people

Arabo argued that “unity is the cornerstone,” pointing to a well-known saying: “There is a kind of bird that defends itself from the attack of the hawk by gathering together, and therefore the hawk is unable to hurt it.”

He went on to state: “When the Kurds unite, nobody will be able to threaten them. Whenever the government and tribes launched an attack against the region, the Kurds united, and Kurds throughout Europe to Kurdistan’s four corners came to assist Rojava. As a result of their union and common understanding, many problems were solved, since attacks were launched against them due to extermination and relocation of the Kurds.

Arabo called for Kurdish unity to be “effective, not based on party unity, but on broad cohesion that serves the people and protects the homeland.” He added that what Kurds need today is unity so that they can become decision-makers and a force in the future.

He concluded his remarks by calling on Kurdish movements and parties to rebuild a broad and deep dialogue, based on identifying what is right and wrong, what is positive, and working to draw closer to the people and understand their thinking.
