China: 2nd phase of talks between US- Iran will be “even tougher”

While discussing a memorandum of understanding that was signed between the United States and Iran to bring peace to the Middle East ahead of its signing on Friday, the Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi told his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar that "the second phase of negotiations will be more difficult than the first."

It was reported in a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry that the UN Security Council needs to play a bigger part in negotiating an agreement between the two countries.

China’s Foreign Minister hailed the initial phase of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and America and appreciated the help rendered by Pakistan in helping both the sides arrive at an agreement.

He called for the need to make further efforts to move forward in the negotiations in the direction of peace in the Middle East region. Wang told Dar, “There should be absolutely no going back, much less reverting to the use of force.”

According to him, “The present consensus is not the end of the story, but a new beginning.” He emphasized that, “Achieving permanent peace in the Middle East and the Gulf regions requires consistent efforts on the part of all the parties concerned,” adding that China was ready to cooperate with Pakistan in this regard.
