Campaign supporting YPJ expands in Rojava, Europe

According to information obtained from Amina Omar, a member of the Women’s Council in North and East Syria, activities supporting the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) will continue, and large demonstrations will take place simultaneously in Europe and Rojava on May 30.

The Joint Platform of Women’s Movements and Organizations in Rojava launched the campaign on April 26 to support the YPJ and demand its inclusion within the structure of the Syrian Ministry of Defense.

As part of the campaign, many activities have been organized, including rallies, seminars, and workshops, and these activities are still ongoing. The campaign has also received support from many female figures and women’s organizations across the Middle East and around the world.

Omar told ANHA Agency that the campaign is being carried out on three levels: local, Middle Eastern, and international. YPJ flags and photos of YPJ martyrs have been raised in the streets, while rallies and legal, cultural, artistic, and intellectual discussion circles have been organized throughout Rojava Kurdistan, with activities still continuing.

In the Middle East, many female activists from countries including Sudan, Somalia, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, and Algeria have sent messages of support to the YPJ.

Massive rally to be held in Europe

Supportive activities are also being organized globally, where women are expressing their positions, holding meetings, and creating hashtags. A massive European march will be held on May 30.

The messages to be delivered during the march emphasize that the YPJ is also a social force and has become a symbol of women in the women’s revolution, strengthening women’s will and creating radical changes in society, not merely a military force.

At the same time as the major rally in Europe, another large rally will also be held in Rojava.

Messages sent to international organizations

The platform has so far sent letters to United Nations institutions, the European Union, and the interim government in Damascus, but no responses have yet been received.

“YPJ Guarantees Women’s Rights”

Amina stressed that their goal is to pressure for recognition of the existence of the YPJ, saying:

“Our campaign includes all women’s rights in the new Syria, socially and militarily. We want this demand to be included in the constitution. Thanks to the presence of women, every individual complements the other. Thanks to the YPJ, women and society are protected. These units must assume their place as an independent force. The YPJ will not allow massacres against women to be repeated. They enable women to find themselves in life and possess their own will.”

The campaign is still ongoing, and no specific end date has yet been set.
