Bafal Talabani calls for inclusive Syrian Constitution protecting all components

The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Talabani, highlighted during a meeting the necessity of ensuring the drafting of a Syrian constitution that preserves the rights of all components, as well as implementing the January 29 agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Interim Government in Syria.

Today, the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan held a meeting chaired by Bafel Jalal Talabani to discuss a number of political and security issues.

During the meeting, President Bafel reviewed the details of his meeting with the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, and the U.S. President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy, Tom Barrack. Discussions focused on ensuring the drafting of a Syrian constitution that safeguards the rights of all components and reaffirming the implementation of the January 29 agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Interim Government in Syria.

The Political Bureau also discussed developments in the ongoing war in the region and the associated security challenges, stressing that the optimal solution lies in returning to the negotiating table and resolving outstanding issues through dialogue, while prioritizing the protection of citizens’ lives and property and safeguarding Iraqi territorial sovereignty.

The meeting further addressed the substance of a phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and President Bafel Talabani. During the call, Trump outlined the United States’ objectives in this war and expressed appreciation for the role of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Iraq. President Bafel noted that the call provided an opportunity for a broader understanding of Washington’s policies and for exploring ways to build a strong partnership between the United States and Iraq.

Bafel Talabani affirmed that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan is ready to mobilize all its relationships to achieve peace and stability in Iraq and the region.
