More than 100 doctors dismissed from Ministry of Health hospitals in Latakia

More than one hundred doctors have been dismissed from hospitals and medical centers in Latakia Governorate, raising concerns about serious repercussions for the health sector in the province.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the Ministry of Health of the Interim Government issued decisions to dismiss over one hundred doctors working in government hospitals and medical centers in Latakia and its countryside, sparking fears of negative impacts on the province’s healthcare system.

The dismissals affected specialist and resident doctors, as well as medical staff working in critical departments, in addition to 11 administrative employees at these hospitals and centers. The majority of those dismissed are reportedly from the Alawite community, with no detailed official clarification regarding the criteria or the legal and administrative reasons underpinning the decisions.

Some doctors were reportedly informed of their termination suddenly, while others indicated that administrative reviews are ongoing without clear responses, prompting calls for an official statement explaining the rationale behind these measures.

This decision comes at a time when the healthcare sector is already facing a severe shortage of personnel and equipment, compounded by difficult economic and living conditions, raising questions about the impact of this move on the operation of government hospitals and the continuity of medical services for citizens.
