At least 200 Indian feminist, academic figures express solidarity with Rojava

Prominent Indian figures have called for an immediate halt to attacks on Rojava, recognition of AANES, and the safeguarding of the political and social gains achieved by women, in addition to ensuring the safe return of displaced persons to their occupied areas.

These calls were made in a joint statement issued by a group of academics, feminists, writers, journalists, artists, politicians, and human rights defenders from various states across India.

The statement of solidarity with Rojava, issued under the title “Hope Under Siege,” received broad support from 221 figures from diverse fields. It emphasized that the democratic and equality-based model that has developed under women’s leadership in Rojava constitutes a historic source of inspiration not only for the Kurdish people, but also for women across the region and the world.

The statement noted that the attacks targeting Rojava directly strike at women’s achievements and their revolution, calling for these attacks to be stopped immediately.

The signatories stressed that lasting and just peace can only be achieved by guaranteeing the political, legal, and social gains of the Kurdish people and Kurdish women. They added that developments following the call for solidarity against the attacks on Rojava have created a new political turning point.

The statement underscored the importance of the ongoing process in Rojava evolving into a permanent, just, and democratic peace. It explained that the concrete demands raised by women and the Kurdish people in the region have resonated widely among women in India, where they have been highlighted before public opinion as a model of struggle for freedom and equality.

The signatories called for recognition of the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people and all peoples living in Rojava, official recognition of the Autonomous Administration, protection and guarantee of the political, legal, and social gains achieved by women during the revolutionary process, and the assurance of a safe, voluntary, and dignified return for those displaced by the war to the occupied territories, particularly Afrin and Serekaniye (Ras al-Ain).
