Anne Linde: people’s will that expressed in elections should be respected

Former Swedish Foreign Minister Anne Linde commented on the Turkish local elections and the Justice and Development Party's attempts to seize control of the municipality of Wan in northern Kurdistan, and said: "The will of the people, which they demonstrated in the elections, must be respected."

The former Swedish Foreign Minister, Anne Linde, said in a post on the X platform, that: “The head of the Equality and Peoples’ Democracy Party, who was elected to the mayor of Wan, has been removed from his position by the (Turkish state) election board, and the will of the people that they have shown must be respected.”

Yesterday, the Wan Election Commission granted the mayoral mandate to the Justice and Development Party candidate who failed in the elections, instead of the Equality and Peoples’ Democracy Party candidate who won the elections.

Anne Christine Linde is a Swedish Social Democratic politician, who was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs on 10 September 2019. She previously served as Minister for Foreign Trade and Minister for Scandinavian Cooperation, before that she was Minister for European Union Affairs and Trade in the Löfven government since 25 May 2016.
