Activist: Guaranteeing our rights in future Syria lies in Kurdish unity

Feminist activist Shams Antar spoke to ANHA's agency about the first conference of Kurdish women in Rojava, held on March 23 in the city of Qamishlo, under the slogan "Kurdish Women's Leadership Ensures Kurdish National Unity."

Feminist activist Shams Antar emphasized that the gathering of Kurdish women in this conference stems from their role in amplifying their voices and strengthening Kurdish unity during this sensitive phase Syria is going through.

Shams Antar said that holding the conference at this time comes in the context of efforts to guarantee the rights of women and Kurds in light of the radical changes Syria is undergoing after the fall of the former regime and the rise of another regime with a radical religious orientation.

She stated that the recently issued "Constitutional Declaration" by the Damascus government marginalized the rights of Kurds and women, which calls for a joint effort to fight to guarantee their rights in the constitution and laws.

She explained, "This radical regime does not represent Kurds or women who seek to live in freedom and dignity. Therefore, we must do our utmost as women and Kurds to change this reality."

Shams Antar highlighted the importance of women's participation in political seminars and lectures to exchange views and listen to all parties, contributing to the development of a unified political vision that will contribute to the convening of a Kurdish conference.

She emphasized that the role of Kurdish women extends beyond local issues to effectively contribute to national issues, emphasizing the importance of mutual acceptance among the various Kurdish parties to reach a common formula that preserves the rights of all.

Shams Antar expressed her hope that all Kurdish parties will reach a common formula that ensures that no party is excluded and that all political and social components participate in the upcoming Kurdish conference.

She concluded her remarks by saying, "Despite everything that is happening now in Syria, especially on the Syrian coast, I am confident that we will be able to guarantee our rights in a future Syria by achieving Kurdish unity."
