Supervised by Argentine artist Federico Roca, and as part of the campaign “Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan and a Political Solution to the Kurdish Question,” a number of artists are launching today a new initiative on Instagram under the title “A Place for Ocalan.” The campaign aims to shed light on the issue through the sharing of short video clips.

Prominent artists, academics, and activists from around the world are taking part in the campaign as an expression of their solidarity and support for the stated demands.

The invitation to participate in the campaign reads: “As part of the struggle for the Kurdish people and Leader Abdullah Ocalan, we are launching an artistic campaign on social media platforms under the title ‘A Place for Ocalan.’ This campaign, which features video clips that hold a special meaning for us, is a way for us to express our solidarity with Leader Ocalan.”

The “A Place for Ocalan” campaign joins other freedom initiatives launched by various movements since 2023 as part of the “Freedom for Ocalan” campaign (for example, the statement published in 2024 by 69 Nobel Prize laureates calling for Ocalan’s freedom). The organizers call on everyone to film a short video and share it on social media platforms.

Video requirements:

The video must not exceed 10 seconds.

It should be filmed horizontally.

There must be an empty chair next to the person.

It should either be silent or include a piece of music you would like to dedicate to Abdullah Ocalan.

The video must include:

The name of the person in the video.

Their profession.

The place chosen for Ocalan and the place dedicated to him.

The members of the group invited everyone to join the campaign and share its link.

The event launches today on Instagram at 11:00 a.m. Argentina time, 4:00 p.m. Brussels time, and 5:00 p.m. Amed and North and East Syria time.
