Council members underscored the importance of de-escalation in the region, warning that continued military operations threaten regional peace and stability.

They expressed regret over civilian casualties resulting from the strike and stressed that the protection of civilians must remain a paramount priority in any conflict.

The statement further emphasized that the release of all hostages—including those held by Hamas—and an end to the war in Gaza must remain at the forefront of international priorities.

Council members reiterated their full support for regional and international mediation efforts, urging both Israel and Hamas to seize the opportunity to achieve peace and break the cycle of violence.

Israel carried out the strike on Tuesday in a surprise operation targeting a meeting of senior Hamas leaders, including Khalil al-Hayya. The attack killed six individuals: al-Hayya’s son, his chief of staff, three of his bodyguards, and a Qatari security officer.
