Women’s delegation from NE Syria participates in “Festival of Humanity” in Paris

The Festival of Humanity (Fête de l’Humanité) opened today, Friday, September 12, 2025, in Paris, with thousands of visitors and representatives of leftist parties and organizations from France and several other countries in attendance. The delegation from North and East Syria joined the event, which features a diverse program of artistic, cultural, and political activities running until September 14.

The festival opened with a speech by French senator and festival director, Fabien Gay, who emphasized the importance of international solidarity with peoples suffering from oppression and persecution, stressing that the goal of the festival is to shed light on issues of justice, freedom, and the defense of human rights.

The event is held at the former Air Base 217 in Le Plessis-Pâté, south of the capital, organized by the newspaper L’Humanité. It is considered one of the most prominent annual gatherings combining music, intellectual debates, and acts of solidarity.

The festival’s 90th edition features extensive artistic participation, alongside political and cinematic panels addressing current issues such as the climate crisis, the war in Gaza, and women’s rights. The delegation from North and East Syria is also taking part in discussions on these issues during the festival.

The women’s delegation from North and East Syria is carrying out an official month-long European tour, which includes meetings with women’s and human rights organizations, European parliamentarians, as well as participation in dialogue forums and cultural festivals.

The delegation includes representatives of leading women’s institutions in the region: Amina Omar, executive member of the Women’s Council in North and East Syria; Mona al-Yousef, spokesperson of the Syrian Women’s Council; Shahrazad al-Jassim, spokesperson of the Zenobia Women’s Gathering; Jian Hussein, member of the Kongra Star Coordination; and Georgette Barsomo, president of the Syriac Women’s Union.

The tour seeks to highlight the experience of women in North and East Syria, their role in decision-making, and to build bridges of cooperation with European institutions in the fields of human rights and gender equality.
