44 Iraqi families leave Roj Camp in NE Syria for their homeland

A total of 44 Iraqi families, comprising approximately 184 individuals, have left Roj Camp in the city of Derik, North and East Syria, marking the first departure from this camp.

As part of coordination between the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and the Migration and Displacement Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, a group of Iraqi families residing in Roj Camp in Derik, located in Jazera Canton, departed today. This group included 44 families, totaling around 184 individuals.

The Iraqi authorities are transporting these individuals to Jadaa Camp in Nineveh Governorate.

Roj Camp was established in the city of Derik on June 24, 2015, to house the families of ISIS mercenaries, most of whom are from European countries. The camp also accommodates both Iraqis and Syrians. Currently, Roj Camp hosts 2,664 people within 861 families.

Meanwhile, Iraq’s Minister of Migration and Displacement, Evan Faeq Jabro, stated in a press conference today, Tuesday: "The repatriation of Iraqi refugees from Al-Hol Camp will be halted."
