Palestinian television announced on Tuesday that 38 people were killed in the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since dawn.

Local reports indicated that Israeli army tanks entered the heart of the city, in the most violent escalation in nearly two years in the northern Gaza Strip.

According to the Jerusalem Post, the Israeli army, after weeks of airstrikes that targeted multi-story high-rise buildings, has reached a turning point paving the way for a large-scale ground invasion.

Estimates indicate that more than 300,000 civilians had fled Gaza City southward by Monday evening, while approximately 700,000 remained inside. According to Israeli sources quoted by Axios, Israeli forces launched a ground offensive to seize control of the city.

Gaza witnessed heavy shelling at dawn on Tuesday, according to eyewitnesses quoted by Agence France-Presse. This came a day after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Israel, where he affirmed his country's "steadfast" support for Tel Aviv in its military operation.
