Iranian Agency: Armita's health condition is critical after falling into coma

The Iranian "IRNA" News Agency reported that "the vital signs of teenager Armita Geravand, who fell into a coma after being beaten by the Iranian 'morality police' in the Tehran metro, have worsened over the past few days."

The Agency wrote on one of its virtual social media pages, “However, the medical team's efforts to improve Armita Garavand's condition continue."

While observers believe that these measures come due to the Iranian state’s fear of a repeat of the case of the young Kurdish woman, Jina Amini, who was killed after being tortured by the Iranian “moral police,” which sparked a popular uprising throughout eastern Kurdistan and Iran.

There are no new reports or photos of Armita in the hospital. Also, there is no clear information about her health condition, after 11 days of transporting her to the hospital.

Some observers of the situation in Iran confirmed that “the Iranian regime intends to make what happened to the young woman disappear over time.”

Earlier, Shaheen Ahmadi, Armita's mother, was detained for a period of time by Iranian security forces, after she protested against being prevented from visiting her daughter. Armita's family was also prevented from visiting her or following up on her health condition, and according to reports, her older sister called Awa has not been able to visit Armita yet.

The Iranian state's attempts to silence the young woman's family and friends came in conjunction with citizens' support for her, through writings on the walls and placing protest banners.

A video tape sent to the Iran International channel showed, “A citizen drew a picture of Armita in Laleh Park in Tehran.” In another video, a banner bears a picture of Armita and the phrase “Shout Her Name,” affixed to a wall at Karaj University, west of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

News of Armita's hospitalization began to spread on Sunday (October 1), when activists and human rights groups reported that the so-called "morality police" in Iran beat a 16-year-old girl and put her into a coma.
