Egyptian journalist: “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” has become a way of life and for women

A year has passed since the women's uprising in Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan) and Iran, which quickly resonated throughout the world, and as a result the slogan "Jin, Jiyan, Azadî" (Women, Life, Freedom) turned into a philosophy and approach followed by women around the world.

The killing of the young Kurdish woman, Gina Amini, on September 16, 2022, at the hands of the so-called Iranian “moral police,” became a turning point in Iran and Rojhilat Kurdistan, which has been ruled by the Misak-ı Millî s' regime for decades and suffers from oppression, restrictions on freedoms, and exclusion in all areas of life.

The Iranian state sought to suppress this uprising and silence it with the most brutal and repressive methods, including beating male and female protesters, arbitrarily arresting them, and issuing a wholesale death sentence against everyone who participated in it.

'A new and different existence'

Political science researcher and Egyptian journalist Walaa Abu Steit saw that women in Iran and the women of Kurdistan confirmed through their uprising that they have a new and different existence, and declared their rejection of all policies pursued by the “Misak-ı Millî s' regime” in Iran.

She continued in her speech by saying: “The woman in that scene had another say, different from all the scenes of uprisings or harbingers of revolution extending from 2018 until now, in different ways and images.”

Walaa Abu Steit explained that the protests taking place in the Iranian state may last a long time, but in the end they will announce the extinguishing of the glow of this state, which was built on a legacy of repression and intimidation.

She said: “Until this moment, the Basij forces are still the tool that suppresses all popular uprisings, and they are themselves a branch of the Revolutionary Guard that Khomeini established to confront any movement that might emerge. This brutal monster at home and abroad, using striking force, women stood up to him and were "The different equation is a popular movement led by women in a conservative country."

An approach to life and women

Regarding the extent of the impact of this uprising on other women’s movements and organizations around the world, Walaa pointed out that “every action of women in any place is in the general interest of women and women’s organizations in any place, since we are all intertwined, even if through imperceptible threads, and all international positions For women around the world, what is happening in Iran, and the images of solidarity and support, etc., are all images that fall within this framework.”

Walaa pointed out that the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom) has become a method for life and for women, and it is a talk about a free life.

Wonderful fighters

She described the loyalty of every woman who is still resisting the oppression and injustice of the state in both Iran and the Rogue women of Kurdistan, as “wonderful fighters,” and stressed that they “achieved what many wished for and proved that Eve is the foundation and origin of existence. Thank you for your noble behavior and the splendor of your action. We extend your support in a bad reality.” Everything in it is fatal to the spirit, the soul and hope.”

Egyptian journalist Walaa Abu Steit concluded her speech by saying, “You are makers of hope in a time when the earth needs to be watered with more hope so that it may face all the climate changes, wars, hatred, and grudges everywhere. You are a crown on heads that believe in the fulfillment of wishes, so stand firm, for victory will inevitably come one day.”
