Last Thursday, June 22, 2023, the Department of Foreign Relations of North and East Syria received an official delegation from the Kingdom of Denmark, consisting of the Danish Special Envoy for the conflict in Syria, and for the areas of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Nicholas Harris. He was received by the member of the Administrative Body in the Department of Foreign Relations, Khaled Ibrahim.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the general situation in Syria, especially in NE Syria, the Autonomous Administration's initiative for a solution in Syria, the economic and humanitarian conditions, and the situation of ISIS fighters and their families in the Roj and Al-Hol camps.

The member of the Administrative Body of the Department of External Relations, Khaled Ibrahim, said, "The Autonomous Administration put forward an initiative for a solution in Syria, and received positive responses from many political and societal frameworks and international bodies. It depends on national precepts and goals, and the Syrian people must participate in dialogue and discussion about a solution in Syria, and it included nine points, including the refugee file.

Al-Ibrahim stressed the need to continue moving together to combat international terrorism represented by ISIS, and that resettlement and repatriation operations are a very small part of the solutions that can help eliminate ISIS, but they are insufficient despite the fact that the Autonomous Administration is cooperative and lenient in this matter.

He continued, "The international community must activate other tracks, in partnership with the Autonomous Administration in providing a helping hand in the economic fields and areas of providing programs to rehabilitate the camps of ISIS families and the humanitarian aid."

He noted that "the spread of ISIS sleeper cells has begun to escalate in recent periods, and their attacks on military forces and security points indicate the danger of ISIS on rehabilitation centers and camps, so its economic sources must be dried out.

In turn, Nikola praised the partnership between the Autonomous Administration, the Syrian Democratic Forces and the international coalition forces, including Denmark.

He expressed Denmark's gratitude for the sacrifices made by the Syrian Democratic Forces in the war against terrorism and ISIS, stressing the need for pressure on ISIS to maintain remain region's stability.

He continued, "Denmark - at the political level - is well aware of the crisis situation in the region in terms of economic, humanitarian and security terms, and they are in constant contact with the representatives of the Autonomous Administration in Europe, and they put us in the picture of the situation in Syria and the regions of NE Syria."

Nikola stressed that Denmark "will continue to support the region with regard to the camps to maintain its security and stability, as well as continue to provide stability projects in both Syria and Iraq."

At the end of the meeting, a written letter was delivered on behalf of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Autonomous Administration, which was received by the Department of Foreign Relations, in which it expressed thanks, praise, and standing by the military and security forces in fighting ISIS, and providing a helping hand in development and stability programs.

A woman and two children from ISIS families who are citizens of the Kingdom of Denmark were handed over, according to formal documentation between the two sides.
