Iraqi parliamentarian: Halabça massacre should be taught in school curriculum

Zainab Juma al-Mousawi, the member of the Sadiqoon Bloc said that the chemical attack carried out by Saddam Hussein's regime against the civilian population in Halabja is consistent with the description of genocide in international law directed against a specific group or race for revenge or punishment.

She said in a statement regarding the 35th anniversary of the bombing of Halabça with chemical weapons, according to "Roj News" agency: " Saddam Hussein committed the crime of genocide against the residents of Halabça, which is classified as an act of genocide."

More than 5,000 people from Halabça were martyred due to the chemical bombardment in 1988; Most of them are elderly, women and children, and 7,000-10,000 others were wounded, and thousands of civilians died in the year that followed the barbaric bombing as a result of health complications, diseases and birth defects, and many of the victims’ families are still trying to find the bodies of their children, elders and men who were lost during the chemical bombing.
