Suleiman Hammou considered the recent moves of the Iraqi army, with the support of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, against the  Şengal district;  A clear fear of the expansion of the Autonomous Administration project in  Şengal to the Iraqi regions, and addressed the Iraqi army by saying, "Where were you when ISIS attacked us?"

The speech of the co-chair of the Yazidi House in the Jazira region, Suleiman Hammou, came to our agency;  In the wake of the tensions in the district and the Iraqi forces' attack against the area.

On the 18th of last April, the Iraqi army began launching large-scale attacks against the district;  In conjunction with a joint attack by the Turkish occupation army and the Democratic Party on the legitimate defense areas, specifically the  Avashin, Zab and  Metina areas.

The Iraqi army used tanks and artillery to bombard the Dogri complex and the town of Sinuni in  the district, which led to the death of a fighter in the  Şengal Resistance Units and the wounding of two others.

The Iraqi government's escalation against Şengal coincides with the government's construction of a 250 km separation wall between Syria and Iraq, under the pretext of stopping ISIS activity, and this was officially denied by Iraqi Prime Minister Fouad Hussein in an interview with an Arab channel.  He pointed out that the wall came to stop the movement of Kurdish fighters between Rojava and  Şengal, which exposes the Iraqi intentions towards the district and the democratic experience of the Yazidi Kurds.

'The Yazidis consider that salvation from genocide is self-protection, not dependence on other parties.

In the context of that, our agency met the co-chair of the Yazidi House in the Jazira region, Suleiman Hammou.

Hammo pointed out that  Şengal is an important historical area for the Kurds, especially the Yazidis, and includes the largest gathering of Yazidis in the world, and its residents believe in Kurdish beliefs and culture that are rooted in the depth of history.

Regarding the continuous attacks against him, Suleiman  he said, "The Yazidis have gone through many exterminations and firmas throughout history, and the Ottomans pursued a policy of systematically exterminating the Yezidis. If this people has been subjected to 74 firmans until today, about 60 of these were during  the Ottomans ruled the region, and their goal was to eradicate the roots of the Kurds and completely end their existence. This policy is still continuing in the Turkish state.

He added, "The establishment of the protection forces is very important, and these forces succeeded in liberating their land from ISIS alongside Kurdish forces, and standing in the face of genocide, thus forming an autonomous administration in 2017 and living freely and without restrictions, which made the eyes of the Yazidis in the world turn to  Şengal, and they flock to him to live this free life, as the Yazidis considered that salvation from genocide is self-protection.

12,000 KDP forces fled from district, when dozens of ISIS mercenaries headed to it in August 2014, who committed crimes against the Yazidis.

The Yezidis formed the resistance units, numbering thousands of male and female fighters;  They were able to expel ISIS and protect it from attacks until today.

“According to the constitution and the approval of Parliament,  Şengal can rely on his military strength and his autonomous administration.”

Regarding the recent movements and attacks of the Iraqi government, he says, "The movements of the Iraqi government are different from what is included in the country's federal constitution. According to the constitution and the approval of Parliament,  Şengal can rely on its military strength and AA to protect the presence of the Yazidi people. It is mobilizing its forces in the region from which it withdrew to the ISIS, that committed massacres against the Yazidis. You say that you are Iraqis and must be subject to the authority of the state, and we say where you were when ISIS attacked us.”

Hammou considers the Iraqi army’s movements a clear message, which is that it fears the extension of the Autonomous Administration project in  Şengal to the rest of the Iraqi regions, and that the military forces have proven their efficiency;  The Autonomous Administration has also proven its success in preserving the Yazidi Kurds, and that the presence of the Yazidis is represented by the presence of its forces and AA.

He touched on the process of building the separation wall, saying, "The process of building the separation wall on the border between Syria and Iraq reveals the intentions of the Iraqi government. For years they have been claiming that the components in Syria are brothers to the Iraqis, and that Syria is the closest neighbor to Iraq, but suddenly they are building a separation wall between  the two countries, thus targeting the Yazidi presence, cordoning off the democratic experiment and severing relations between the Kurds in Rojava and  Şengal. It is a hostile act, but we are well aware that building the wall is a Turkish plan implemented by the Iraqi forces, and it will affect the relations between the Kurdish forces and the Iraqi government in the coming days."

He added, "The Iraqi government, which claims to represent the people of the components in Iraq, has not yet recognized, along with the government of Southern Kurdistan, the genocidal attacks against the Yazidi Kurds, and therefore, the United Nations, of which Iraq is a member, has not yet recognized these crimes and the tragedies, on the contrary, all parties are trying to obscure the truth and the reasons that presented Shingal to an attempt to exterminate at the hands of ISIS, and no court has tried those responsible, and no human rights organization has worked to raise this issue.
