Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee calls for safe return

Sara Qawwas, a member of the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee in Kobani, said the committee continues its efforts to ensure the return of displaced people to their city, noting that the committee’s list includes around 1,700 displaced people residing in Kobani.

She explained that displaced people living in Kobani have endured difficult conditions in camps and other areas where they have stayed over the past years, stressing that a plan exists to facilitate their safe return.

She stressed that returning to their places of origin represents a legitimate right for displaced people and that their difficult humanitarian conditions should not become a hostage to political disputes. She also pointed to continued efforts to achieve their return.

She noted that displaced people remain concerned about possible attacks during the return process, calling on the international community to assume its humanitarian and security responsibilities toward them and work to end their forced displacement.
