The Presidency of Iraq: Turkish attacks are a threat to national security

A spokesman for the Presidency of Republic of Iraq said in a statement that "the Presidency of the Republic is following with great concern the ongoing Turkish military operations inside Iraqi borders in Kurdistan Region, and considers them a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and a threat to Iraqi national security."

The statement added, according to what was reported by Iraqi News Agency, that "the repetition of Turkish military operations inside Iraqi borders in Kurdistan region and without coordination with Iraqi federal government despite previous calls to stop them and hold talks and coordination around them is unacceptable."

And pointed out that "while we emphasize strengthening positive relations with Turkey on the basis of common interests, and resolving security issues through prior joint cooperation and coordination, unilateral security practices in addressing outstanding security issues are unacceptable, and Iraqi sovereignty must be respected."

And she added, "The decision of the official Iraqi state and its unified foreign policy is based on Iraq's continued refusal to make its land a field of conflicts and an arena for settling the accounts of others, encroaching on its sovereignty and threatening its security and internal stability."

Since dawn yesterday, Turkish occupation army has launched large-scale attacks on legitimate defense areas in southern Kurdistan, with the complicity of Kurdistan Democratic Party that the President of Government of Southern Kurdistan, Masrour Barzani, visited Turkey on 15th of this April, and met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and head of the intelligence Hakan Fidan.

On March 26, 2022, the Foreign Relations Committee of KCK announced that Turkish occupation would launch an attack on southern Kurdistan in cooperation with KDP.
