"Four Ukrainian Su-27s were shot down today," it said, adding that military operations were resumed after the ceasefire in Mariupol.

"Due to the lack of desire on the part of the Ukrainian side to extend the ceasefire, military operations resumed at 18:00 Moscow time (1500 GMT)," Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in video statements.

The Ukrainian coastal city council confirmed that the evacuation of civilians had been canceled "because of the Russian forces' failure to adhere to the ceasefire," as he put it.
