Sheikho: Soylu visits occupied areas to legitimize Turkish occupation

A member of the Executive Committee of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in the Euphrates region, Ahmed Sheikho, confirmed that the Turkish Interior Minister's visit is to legitimize the Turkish occupation of the occupied areas in northeast Syria, and that it is the last chapter of the demographic change and annexing Syrian lands by the occupying state.

The Turkish occupation state constantly work to consolidate and legitimize the occupation in the occupied areas in NES in general and the city of Afrin in particular, after its occupation on March 18, 2018, in order to annex the occupied areas to Turkish territory, as it did with the Syrian Iskenderun Brigade previously.

Since Turkey's occupation of Afrin canton, it has been committing crimes against the region people, including killing and kidnapping civilians and changing its demographics.

In a move aimed at consolidating the Turkish occupation of the occupied Syrian territories, and disrespecting the sovereignty of Syria, the Turkish Minister of Interior, "Süleyman Soylu" visited Afrin canton and the occupied city of Azaz on the first day of Eid al-Adha.

Knowing that this is not his first visit, he has visited several occupied areas in northern Syria over the past years, from Jarabulus to Azaz, in addition to the Syria's Idlib.

"Turkey is working to achieve its interests at the expense of the Syrians"

In this context, Ahmed Sheikho, a member of the PYD's Executive Board in the Euphrates region, said that "since the beginning of the Syrian revolution, the Turkish state has intervened to achieve its interests at the expense of the Syrian people, using some Syrian mercenaries for to this end in the region, so it pursued proxy war early of the Syrian revolution, and then it directly intervened, occupying several areas in the NES, violating all international laws and norms.

Concerning Turkey’s violations in the occupied areas, he said: “After occupying some Syrian regions, it carried out the demographic change, displacing the indigenous population and settling the families of its mercenaries there, and then changing the landmarks and historical cities, neighborhoods and villages in the occupied areas and imposing the Turkish language.

Sheikho noted that Turkey not only did that, but also began violating the values of the peoples of the region, demolishing their historical monuments and exhuming the graves of martyrs there, not to mention the almost daily crimes in those areas.

Ahmed Sheikho pointed out that all these crimes and violations were stages that the Turkish occupation state was going through to realize its dream of building the Ottoman Sultanate in the region.

Soylu's visit to the occupied territories to legitimize the Turkish occupation

Regarding Suleiman Soylu’s visit to the occupied territories, Sheikho said: “In the last chapter of the consolidation and legitimization of the Turkish occupation in the occupied territories, Soylu’s visit to the city of Afrin was in an attempt to inform the world that that region had become part of the Turkish lands; it could annex it to Turkey.”

A member of the Executive Committee of the Democratic Union Party in the Euphrates region, Ahmed Sheikho, stated that, however, there was no reaction from any humanitarian or international organization towards Turkey's violations in the occupied areas.

Ahmed Sheikho stressed that this visit is a flagrant violation of international laws, as that visit was in order to legitimize the occupation and to cover up Turkish crimes in those areas against humanity.

Sheikho stressed that all humanitarian and human rights organizations must have a strict stance towards these Turkish violations against the peoples of the occupied areas in northern Syria, and that an end to Turkey's violations and crimes in the region must be put to an end.

At the end of his speech, Ahmed Sheikho called on all the Kurdish people to stand up to Turkish violations and organize events that can inform the world about Turkey’s violations and crimes in the occupied areas in north and east Syria.
