The US official spoke on the Security Council and described it as a historic moment with the possibility of a compromise between Washington and Moscow.

He added: "Russian intransigence and the continued blockade of millions of Syrians in northeastern Syria is nothing new for the Russian State, the Russian regime or Russian policy towards AANES. I do not believe that the peoples of north and east Syria or AANES can expect something positive or expect good from the Russian regime. "
