Amed Prison draws up role model historical resistance

The heroic resistance of Amed Prison in Bakûr Kurdistan was sparked under “Resistance is Life” in face of the empty intestine and reactions escalate in Rojava to support the resistance of the prisons and follow in their footsteps.

The resistance of political detainees has been escalating in the battle of the empty intestines within Turkish prisons, since the last November 27 to curb Turkish violations and obtain their legitimate rights, and break the strict isolation on the leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The hunger strike is a means of peaceful resistance, as the participants in the strike abstain from food as an act of political protest in prisons, in order to obtain their legitimate rights.

"Resistance is Life"

The resistance of the prisons, had heroic stories in Kurdish history, revealing to every Kurdish and freedom-lover the way to freedom and resistance. The resistance sparked of the martyr Mazloum Dogan's saying, “Resistance is Life,” and his comrades, the martyr Kamal Pîr, who said, “We turn death into a life through resistance.” Within the Amed prison in Bakûr Kurdistan in the early eighties of the last century, in protest against the poor prison conditions, inhumane treatment against prisoners, and the failure of detainees to defend themselves.

On March 21, 1982, a day when sparks of freedom ignited Kurdistan wide, and during the second strike in Amed prison, Mazloum Dogan set fire to his body in the prison, which prompted the rest of the detainees to escalate their strike and declare a death strike on July 14 of the same year, and he won as a result of the prison resistance, Kemal Pîr, Khairy Dormus and Akef Yilmaz, the rank of martyrdom

Sherzad Ibrahim Rafiq, a political detainee participated in the hunger strike campaign on the 27th of last November, says, "Speech does not fulfill the right of resistance of the political detainees."

"Their resistance provides us with strength and reveals ways to gain freedom"

He continued: "Their resistance provides us with strength and raises our spirit and reveals to us the truth and the way to achieve freedom and its existence, and role model to follow. They constantly assure us via telephone that the prison resistance is a debt that they owe to the homeland and the people, and that the pace of resistance is escalating more. This is evidence of their insistence on their desire to get their people cause.”

Ibrahim pointed out that the Turkish occupation continued to pursue policies of extermination against the Kurds, in reference to the attacks taking place in Başûr Kurdistan on the legitimate defense zones targeting the Guerilla forces. Its continuous attacks on the regions of northeast Syria, and the policies of exclusion and oppression that it practices against the Kurds in Bakûr Kurdistan. Evidence of his impotence from the continuous Kurdish resistance in his face, and said: "Therefore, Turkey seeks with all its might to pursue these barbaric policies."

“We will continue to support them and follow in their footsteps.”

Ibrahim noted that if it were not for the existence of the love of freedom in the soul of every Kurdish person, heroes would not have been born who resist valiantly despite the chains of the enemy, adding: "But we are supposed to escalate the struggle more, and in support of the resistance of the prisons in achieving their goal of breaking the strict isolation imposed on the leader Abdullah Ocalan and achieving his physical freedom, We must follow in their footsteps without hesitation, as their cause is our cause,” stressing that the people will continue to struggle until they obtain their rights.

Ibrahim affirmed: "We will continue to support the prison resistance. Just as the political detainees followed the path of their comrades who achieved the rank of martyrdom after their resistance in the battle of the empty intestines, we pledge to follow in their footsteps."

He concluded his speech by saying: "They have become the light that reveals to us the path to achieving freedom and achieving democracy and equality for all peoples who are subjected to persecution, not just the Kurds, following the barbaric policies of the dominant countries."
