​​​​​​​On March 8th occasion ... Series of activities in north-east Syria

Feminist organizations and institutions in north and east Syria began celebrating International Women's Day every year with a series of activities and events, following the July 19^th Revolution that began in Rojava. 

A symposium in Aleppo

Under the slogan "Hevrin and Nadia Are the Pledge of Our Struggle and the Path of Our Revolution", the Women's Council of the Future Syria Party organized a seminar in the city of Aleppo, in which dozens of representatives of civil institutions and political parties participated.

The seminar was held in the conference room in the eastern section of Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, and was decorated with pictures of the martyrs of the Future Syria Party, Hevrin Khalaf and Nadia Kheshan, in addition to the flags of the party’s Women's Council.

It began with holding a minute of silence in tribute for the martyrs. Then, the Member of the Women's Coordination of the Party, Khaleda Abdo, spoke about the eighth of March.

She said, “From the spark of March 8^th until the present day, women have been searching for freedom, justice, morals, the truth stolen from them and the will that the authoritarian mentality has wanted to strike since thousands of years.”

She pointed out that “the Women's Revolution in Rojava extended to the areas of north and east Syria and became an example to be emulated,” indicating that women have organized themselves in the military field to defend themselves and protect their land and gains, as well as in other areas to contribute to building an ethical and democratic society.

She drew attention to the obstacles and challenges encountered women’s path, explaining that they turned them into a strong will to struggle for freedom, and pointed to the role of “the martyr Hevrin Khalaf and Nadia Kheshan in founding the Future Syria Party, expanding its public base and establishing co-existence among the components of the Syrian people.”

She stressed the need for women to be represented in drafting the new constitution for Syria, and at the conclusion of her speech, she called on the women of Syria to join hands together to protect Women’s Revolution and develop their struggle by working hard and organization, arming themselves with awareness and strong will.

After that, the discussion was opened for the participants in the seminar to express their views.

A lecture in al-Hasakah

In the same context, the Women’s Council of the Future Syria Party organized today a lecture for hundreds of the party members in Resho Hall in al-Mushairfa neighborhood in al-Hasakah canton.

The hall was decorated with pictures of the Former General Secretary of the party, Hevrin Khalaf and the martyr Nadia al-Kheshan, the party's flags, and banners with “Women are united, regardless of their nationalities. A homeland with the scent of martyrs, Jasmine is not jealous of it” written on.

The lecture began with holding a minute of silence. Then, the spokeswoman for the Women’s Council in the Future Syria Party in al-Hasakah canton, Avin Mohamed, blessed the International Women's Day on Women, recalling the martyrs who left an imprint in the history of women's freedom struggle.

In her speech, she emphasized that “women's resistance was not easy ever. Rather, it was and is still facing all kinds of violence, oppression and slavery by the authoritarian and capitalist mentality of patriarchy to break its will and erase its existence.”

Then, the Member of the General Council of the Future Syrian Party, Sheylan Ahmed, touched on the situation of women in the region in general, highlighting their liberation, achievements and the need to preserve them.

Sheylan Ahmed explained that the Future Syria Party has given women a leading role at all levels, so that they can have an effective and dynamic role within society.

The lecture ended with the presentation of several revolutionary and popular songs by the Future Syria Band.

A lecture in al-Raqqa

The Syrian Women's Council, in coordination with the Women’s Department in al-Raqqa, organized a lecture under the slogan “The March of Hind and Saada is ours and their pledge is ours,” in al-Tajj Hall in the city.

The lecture, which was attended by a substantial crowd, was delivered by Shams Sino, in which she explained that women are the pillars of the family and society, as well as the role of women and the history of their struggle, while the lecture concluded with a short film presentation on the history of Syrian women.

A lecture in Hajin town

The Women’s Department in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor organized a lecture in Hajin town, under the slogan “The March of Hind and Saada Will Prevail,” and it attended by hundreds of women from the towns of Abu Hammam, al-Baghouz and Hajin.

The hall in which the lecture was held was decorated with banners that read “With organization, will and free life, we will give meaning to March 8^th, in the spirit of the martyr Hevrin, Jasmine of March 8^th reeks, and in the spirit of Hind and Saada we will destroy your terror.”

The lecture began with a minute of silence in honor of the souls of the martyrs. Then, the Co-chair of Hajin Town Council, Aida al-Golan, spoke, as she shed light on the struggle of women throughout history.

Next, a documentary film was shown on the 8^th of March, after which the Administrator of the Women’s Committee in the Euphrates Region Council in Deir Ezzor eastern countryside, Ghada Adel, spoke about the development of women’s role at various levels, especially after their involvement in the Autonomous Administration, and then the discussion was opened to the attendees.
