National unity parties decry the missile attack that targeted Hewler airport

On Monday, February 15, 2021, a missile attack targeted Hewler airport, the capital of the Kurdistan region of Başûr, and an air base where forces of the International Coalition to combat "ISIS" are stationed, killing a foreign civilian contractor and wounding 5 others, in addition to an American soldier.

In this regard, the Kurdish national unity parties issued a written statement to the public opinion, stating:

 “After the attack, a group calling itself the “Awliya al-Dam Brigades” claimed responsibility for the operation, and this group, is considered new group linked to Iran, and its first operations were almost in September 2020 targeting convoys of supplies for the International Coalition in the provinces of southern Iraq."

The Kurdish national unity parties expressed their position by saying: “We in the Kurdish national unity parties condemn in the strongest terms this brutal, hostile attack,” affirming that its aim is to strike stability and security in the Başûr Kurdistan region, to create chaos, to mix the cards and to reduce the prestige and sovereignty of the region, which is What constitutes an escalation and a serious threat that requires standing up and dealing with it seriously, by working on the success of the Kurdish ranks to stand in the face of all threats that target the existence of the Kurdish people and all their gains, whether in Başûr or Rojava.

The National Unity Parties called on the international community to put an end to the practices of armed militias that operate outside the authority of the federal government, which have turned Iraq into an arena for settling accounts, according to the dictates of the parties that finance, support and direct them in line with their interests that do not recognize sovereignty, law, or principle.
