On February 10th, the Turkish occupation army launched a massive attack on Garê region in Başûr Kurdistan, with more than 40 warplanes, helicopters and drones, and directly targeted the camp where the war prisoners were present, who were arrested by the People’s Defense Forces at various times and places, among them members of the Turkish intelligence service.

During the bombing, the leadership of the People’s Defense Forces called through a statement the families of the prisoners to pressure the Turkish state to stop the attack because it poses a threat to the prisoners, but the Turkish state continued its bombing and attacks until the attack was deterred on February 14th.

During the Turkish bombing, 13 prisoners of war were killed, and the Turkish occupation promoted that the prisoners killed were exterminated, but the initial scenes depicted by the fighters of the People’s Defense Forces show the falsehood of the claims of the Turkish occupation state, as the video taken shows a group of the Turkish occupation army’s elements next to the cave within which the detained prisoners of war are present, and sounds of shooting are heard in the video.

Prisoners are not civilians

Dr. Azad Diwani explained, “I have observations related to them. The first observation is that they were prisoners of war and they were from the military, the special forces and the so-called police which is the Turkish military security apparatus.”

Azad Diwani stated that they are all military personnel, not civilians, and have been captured in military operations, or while they are trying to assassinate leaders of the Workers' Party, or espionage and transmit military information.”

Diwani pointed out that “They were killed in an area of military clashes in Iraqi Kurdistan (Southern Kurdistan) at a time when a Turkish military aggression against Iraqi Kurdistan was taking place.”

The Turkish regime created drama to gain international support

Diwani emphasized that what “the aggressive Turkish regime is promoting is a set of lies to create drama, and to obtain international sympathy through it, and condemnation of the Kurdish Liberation Movement represented by the PKK.”

He added, "All I know is that the Turkish regime created this drama in order to obtain international support for its aggression against the Kurdish people.”

Diwani Noted, “If the international community wants to verify this, they can send an international commission to investigate facts. As for standing by the Turkish aggressor without a fact-finding committee, it is in support of the aggression and the daily terrible crimes that the Turkish army and security forces carry out against the Kurdish people in the north, south and west Kurdistan.”

Dr. Azad Diwani said: “If the United States and Western countries want to verify the killing of those military prisoners, I do not think there is no trouble to do so.”
