Muhammad Abbas: KDP should support Kurds, not their enemies

In early September of this year, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, visited Turkey, and met with Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu who then said in a tweet that they agreed with Barzani about how to fight the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

After this visit, KDP began the escalation by sending its own heavily armed military forces to the Media defense zones, followed by a statement by the party's leader, Masoud Barzani, in which they legalized the war against the Freedom Movement.

In this context, our agency met with the Secretary-General of the Kurdistan National Assembly Party, Muhammad Abbas, who talked about the causes and creators of the crisis, the purpose and the beneficiary of it, and what might defuse a Kurdish-Kurdish war that may break out at any moment.

Abbas touched on the history of PKK's establishment, and said: "The birth of PKK was a revival of the Kurdish cause."

Abbas who spent decades of his life in political work pointed out that PKK, since its establishment, has been being exposed to attacks due to the ideas it adopted to guarantee the rights of the Kurdish people. He said: "Some Kurdish mercenaries of Turkey also fought it, along with some Kurdish parties that are affiliated with the enemies of the Kurdish people."

Abbas explained that the enemies of the Kurdish people, especially the Turkish Justice and Development Party and its President Erdogan have a project that they want to implement in the Kurdish geography, and they seek to occupy this geography, change its demographics, and eradicate Kurdish history.

He indicated that what is happening in Başûr Kurdistan today of escalation by KDP comes in this context, and added: "In Başûr Kurdistan, KDP cooperates with Turkey, and we do not want it to fall into these pitfalls. We are continuing to alert President Masoud Barzani, and consider criticizing and warning him of our duty because the geography of Kurdistan does not belong to any family."

Abbas explained that the Kurdish geography is the country of Kurds, and that no party has the right to act out it. He continued saying: "No family, whether it is the Barzani, Talabani, or any other family, has the right to act personally and unilaterally regarding the Kurdish land, cause and unity. Any individual behavior is unacceptable and rejected."

Muhammad Abbas called for the Head of KDP, Masoud Barzani, to remember the position of PKK during Barzani's declaration of the Independence Referendum in September 2017, and its support for him when everyone abandoned him, and also called for him to remember that the PKK fighters stood by the people of Başûr Kurdistan in Kirkuk and Hewlêr, and defended the Kurdish cities in the face of ISIS attacks, as well as their position in protecting the Yazidis in Şengal after the Peshmerga fighters fled from it on the orders of their military leaders.

Abbas pointed out that any Kurdish force has the right to move in the Kurdish geography and defend it if it is attacked, stressing that it has the right to defend the Kurdish areas at any time.

Abbas warned KDP of the seriousness of what is being done against the Kurds, and demanded it to return to the Kurdish rank and share responsibilities towards the Kurdish people. He said: "Let the decision regarding the Kurds be collective, and let it be the responsibility of the Kurdistan National Congress."

The Secretary-General of the Kurdistan National Assembly Party, Muhammad Abbas, expressed his rejection of KDP's description of PKK as an occupier. He emphasized that a Kurdish force should not fight another one, whatever the arguments.

He continued: "What is happening in Başûr today is the result of coordination and cooperation between Turkey and KDP, in an attempt by both parties to eliminate PKK, which came after Nechirvan Barzani's visit to Ankara."

He pointed out that it is better for KDP to be proud of the fighters of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) because they are the pioneers of freedom and the Knights of the East, not to fight them beside the enemy of the Kurdish people.

Abbas called on the Kurdish people in Başûr and all of Kurdistan to look at the current stage in a spirit of responsibility, and to insist on uniting the ranks and holding a Kurdish national conference.

He also called on KDP to return to the right path, relying on the Kurdish people and moving away from the enemies of the Kurds, and said: "Let the Kurdish people be your supporter, and we wish the Kurdish leaders to review the situation in the region and the stage well, and to deal with the stage via a spirit of brotherhood."

In the conclusion of his speech, the Secretary-General of the Kurdistan National Assembly Party, Muhammad Abbas, called on the Kurdistan Democratic Party to remove obstacles and disagreements, sit at the dialogue table to solve the outstanding problems and not to create a Kurdish-Kurdish war, from which no one will benefit but the enemies of Kurds.
