PYD: Şengal people's will should be respected

On Thursday, the General Council of the Democratic Union Party PYD issued public opinion, about what is happening of the developments in Şengal province, after the governments of Baghdad and Howler announced that they had reached an agreement regarding Şengal.

This agreement is totally rejected by the people of Şengal, and they showed through their statements that they did not accept the terms of the agreement, and emphasized that this agreement does not concern them, because it does not represent their will.

In the text of the party’s statement, which was published under the title “The people of Şengal have the right to manage their affairs”:

All humanity followed the Decree 73, that targeted the people of Şengal and what happened in terms of genocide, killing, captivity and displacement after Baghdad was unable to protect them and Howler abandoned them, and its inhabitants were able to organize themselves and manage their affairs by forming their administration and their protection units after they were able to expel ISIS, and thousands of their children had sacrificed themselves, and the displaced began to return to their areas.

But the world was surprised by a bilateral agreement between Howler and Baghdad that imposes conditions on the people of Şengal by directing or appeasing the desire of parties that were the cause of the tragedy of the people of Şengal.

Imposing such unfair conditions on Şengal and ignoring the will of his people and their aspirations at this stage in which Turkish fascism has become in the most reckless and arrogant levels in order to eliminate everything that is Kurdish, prompts us to think that what is happening is a completion of the seventy-third decree and a completion of what ISIS failed to do. And submission to the blackmail of Turkish fascism, and that the repercussions of implementing such an agreement will have dire consequences for the whole region.

We and all the world expect from Baghdad and Howler to help save the prisoners, the disappeared and the captive women whose fate is unknown to the present day, and to help the residents of the camps to return to their villages and cities and to strengthen the social and defense institutions that the people of Şengal were able to establish with their own capabilities and respect their will.

we in the General Council of the Democratic Union Party are following developments with great caution, and we consider it necessary to respect the vision of our people in Şengal and respect their will, instead of imposing political visions and atmospheres that do not correspond to the aspirations of the people.

This is a moral, human and national responsibility before anything else, and we believe that appealing to reason and respecting the will of the people is sufficient to solve all problems. "
