In a separate context, the army said that a missile landed on Thursday in the Jadriya neighborhood, near the Green Zone, but did not cause significant damage.

Of note, the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad houses government headquarters and embassies, most notably the US embassy, ​​which has witnessed several rockets fired at it in the past months.

The frequency of attacks against the Americans has increased since the killing of the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Qassem Soleimani, and the leader of the Iraqi Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, in a US air strike in Baghdad on January 3.

Washington accuses the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades and other factions close to Iran of being behind the attacks.
