The attacks in the Munjunu and Nanganzai regions of Borno state come just days after at least 69 people were killed by militants in a raid on a village in Gubbio district in the same state, according to Reuters.

Aid workers and three residents said that militants armed with heavy weapons, including rocket launchers, raided government forces in Munjunu at around eleven in the morning local time, noting that they had killed at least 20 soldiers and deployed in the area for three hours.

Two residents and a Combined Civil Task Force fighter said that militants also entered Nanganzai around the same time on Saturday, and the sources said that the attackers arrived on motorbikes and pickup trucks, and killed more than 40 civilians.

In West Africa, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks.
