Protests in Iraq 72 hours after granting confidence to al-Kazemi by parliament

Dozens of protesters demonstrated in large cities in the southern governorates of Iraq, roaming the streets, condemning what they called the "corrupt and thieves" stays in power and not being held accountable and the continuing deterioration of the service and living conditions in the country.

According to Al-Sumaria, the protesters set fire to a former headquarters of the "Badr Organization" in Wasit Governorate, while others crossed the main road of Diwaniyah - Najaf with burning tires. Dozens gathered in the orbit of education, the main center of demonstrations in Karbala Governorate.

Baghdad and around 14 governorates since October 1, 2019, have witnessed demonstrations calling for early elections and fighting corruption, which prompted former Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi to resign, during which about 550 people, most of whom were demonstrators, were killed in violence linked to the protest movement, according to the Commission for Human Rights Government.

This gave the Iraqi parliament on May 7 the confidence of the government of Prime Minister-designate Mustafa al-Kazemi, after a political crisis that struck the country for a period of 10 months.

Al-Kazemi is the third person charged with forming a government since the resignation of Prime Minister Adel Abdel al-Mahdi in November 2019.
