Egypt: 18 terrorists were killed in Bir al-Abd, North Sinai

In a statement, today, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior said, 18 terrorists were killed in Bir al-Abd city in North Sinai Governorate after exchanging fire with the security forces, two days after an attack on Egyptian army elements in the same area, which resulted in the killing and wounding of 10 soldiers, were adopted by mercenaries ISIS.

The statement clarified: "Information was available to the National Security Sector about a group of terrorist elements taking a house in the vicinity of the city of Bir al-Abd, North Sinai, a hub and a focal point for launching their hostilities."

The statement added: "Their hiding area was targeted and exchanges of fire with those elements resulted in the death of 18 of them."

While these elements were found with 13 automatic weapons, 3 IED and two explosive belts, according to the statement.

The Egyptian army spokesman, Tamer al-Rifai, said last Thursday: "Today, an explosive device exploded in an armored vehicle south of the city of Bir al-Abd, resulting in the death of an officer and the injury of 9 soldiers."
