After Erdogan's threats ... Russia announces the agreement with Turkey on Libya

"The joint Russian government delegation was headed by the Special Representative of the Russian President in the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov, and the Turkish delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today.

"And based on the results of the exchange of views, an agreement was reached to continue contacts on the Libyan issue, including providing possible assistance in a speedy settlement of the crisis in this country."

The head of the Russian Contact Group, to settle the Libyan internal conflict, Assistant to the President of the Chechen Republic, Lev Dingov, had announced yesterday that Russia may become a platform for settling the conflict in Libya, stressing that Russia has the influence that all the conflicting parties to the agreements comply.

The war of words between Russia and Turkey has escalated in recent days, as Moscow expressed its concern about bringing Turkish soldiers to Libya, while Erdogan claimed that his country would not remain silent on the support of Russian mercenaries for Khalifa Haftar.

This announcement raises questions about what Turkey presented to Russia through its delegation, which visited Moscow yesterday, in search of a deal on Libya and Syria, as long as Turkey escalated its threats to Russia, but it soon retracted and concluded a deal with it.

The visit of the Turkish delegation was accompanied by the arrival of another delegation of the Syrian regime, at a time when the Idlib region is witnessing a violent escalation by Russia and the regime, which increases the pressure on Ankara.
