Arms race between Washington, Moscow.. Is it a new Cold War?

It seems that the arms race began raging between the United States and Russia, where the Defense Minister Sergei Shweigo said on Tuesday that his country must develop two new missiles before 2021, one of them is five times faster than the speed of the sound, and this came days after Washington announced its withdrawal from the Medium Nuclear Weapons Treaty.

Sergei Shweigo said on Monday, "Moscow must develop a new ground-based missile and a missile whose speed is five times faster than the sound's speed before 2021 in response to Washington's intention to withdraw from the Medium-Range Nuclear Weapons Treaty."

The defense minister ordered the army to begin the work on the development of two new missile systems and to ensure the completion of the work by 2021.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Saturday his country's suspension of the commitment to the Medium Nuclear Missiles Treaty in response to a similar US measure.

When Putin announced his decision, the Russian president ordered his defense and foreign ministers, Sergei Shweigo and Sergey Lavrov, to refrain from talks on nuclear missiles disarmament.

Putin also agreed with the Minister Shweigo's proposal to produce new medium missiles.

Last Friday, the United States announced on the tongue of its Foreign Minister, Mike Pompeo, the suspension of Washington's commitment to the treaty after Russia's accused it violating and ignoring the US calls in this regard.
