Russia supports Maduro: Our partners in Venezuela are president, his government

Russian President's Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that the Kremlin considered Juan Guido as speaker of the parliament and was not recognized as head of state.

He added, "We do not recognize this, Mr. Maduro is the head of state, and he and his government are our partners in Venezuela."

Venezuelan parliament speaker Juan Guido declared himself the temporary president of the state and said the change of power would be in the interest of state partners such as China and Russia.

The European Union has recognized Juan Guido as interim president of the country, in addition to the recognition of a number of countries as president, led by the United States of America, Brazil, and Argentina.

With Venezuela falling into economic and political crises that caused mass exodus and a sharp rise in inflation, the EU imposed an arms embargo and sanctions against Venezuelan officials in protest at what it regards as a violation of human rights and democracy.

Russia is investing in Venezuela's oil sector and has provided support to its army. Last month, two strategic Russian missile bombs landed in Venezuela, angering Washington.
