Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said that his country plans to resume flights to Syria immediately after technical experts have received assurances from the Syrian authorities of the required level of safety for the aircraft according to Sputnik.

The foreign minister said, "The decision to prevent Jordanian aircraft from flying over Syrian airspace was based on the security assessment.

He stressed that there was a technical team in Syria a few days ago, reassuring that there is no threat to flights, the authorities concerned in both countries will discuss the possibility of resuming these flights over the Syrian airspace."

He added, "The discussion is technical, and once the security assessment is completed, and as soon as the officials concerned agree that there is no security risk, the two sides will discuss arrangements for resuming the flights."

Royal Jordanian Airlines suspended daily flights to Damascus and Aleppo in 2012 after the war in Syria escalated.
