Qamishlo residents commemorate 222 martyrs

The Qamishlo Council of Martyrs’ Families held a commemoration ceremony today for 222 martyrs who lost their lives during August and September in different places and years. The ceremony took place at the Martyr Dalil Sarukhan Shrine Hall in the presence of residents and the martyrs’ families.

The ceremony began with a minute of silence in tribute to the souls of the martyrs, followed by a speech on behalf of the Council of Martyrs’ Families delivered by Gulistan Ali Asaad, mother of Martyr Kadous. She began by commemorating the martyrs of August and September.

“Our martyrs are our dignity. Today, we remember our martyrs with great respect and renew our pledge before them that we will not abandon their cause and will follow in their footsteps. We have sacrificed the most precious things we have for the homeland to reach this day,” she said.

Gharib Hasso, co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), also delivered a speech on behalf of the party, commemorating all the martyrs of freedom.

“For years, we lived under oppression and persecution, during which the brave sons and daughters of our people were martyred. The martyrs had a philosophy and awareness derived from the thought of leader Abdullah Ocalan, who laid the foundations for a stage of existence or non-existence,” he said.

He noted that “thanks to the philosophy of leader Abdullah Ocalan and the struggle of the martyrs, we have entered a new stage, while the leader’s project now puts forward a path toward peace and democracy based on a solution.”

“We will continue to follow in the footsteps of our martyrs and carry on their struggle to the end,” he stressed.

The ceremony included lighting candles at the martyrs’ graves and screening a video about the martyrs. It concluded with attendees chanting, “Martyrs are immortal.”
