At least 1,726 persons detained in France

French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said the number of people arrested during the yellow vests protests on Saturday, 1,726 people were arrested while 1,220 were placed in administrative detention.

French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner confirmed that most of the arrests were carried out by police in Paris, where the number of the detained reached 1,150 and 619 in custody.

The French authorities announced on Saturday evening that 118 demonstrators and 17 security forces were injured as the yellow vests protest against the tax policies continued, praising the security forces' handling of the demonstrators.

In his first comment, French President Emmanuel Macaron thanked the French police and said in a tweet via Twitter: "To all the forces of the apparatus mobilized today, thank you for the extraordinary courage and professionalism you have shown."

France has been witnessing demonstrations for the movement of yellow vests for more than two weeks to protest the increase in taxes on fuel prices and deterioration of living conditions. The demonstrations led to killing of four dead and hundreds injured in addition to the arrest of hundreds.
