Lack of medicines, equipment obstacles Avrin hospital's work

After the residents of the Afrin district were enforced out to left their area by the brutal attacks by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries on 18 March 2018, they headed al-Shahba canton. The Health Council of Afrin was forced to establish a small hospital in the same name as Avrin Hospital to provide medical services to the people of Afrin.

The hospital treats approximately 20,000 patients per month

Avrin Hospital, the only one in al-Shahba, treats about 20,000 patients a month. Every day, more than 600 patients from Afrin and al-Shahba go to the hospital to receive treatment free of charge.

The hospital has about 141 medical staff

Avrin Hospital employs 143 doctors, nurses, workers and administrators, working 24 hours a day, including 28 doctors from different specialties, about 70 nurses with emergency staff, and 43 staff members working in various departments including information room, laboratory, hygiene workers and others.

In Avrin Hospital, there are several departments: ophthalmology, orthopedics, incubators, Otolaryngology, surgery, internal, urinary, wound dressing, radiology, intensive care, laboratory and pharmacy.

Lack of medicines and medical equipment

According to officials at Avrin hospital, the hospital lacks the necessary medical equipment and devices, such as a CT scanner, and children's incubators. In recent days, the hospital administration has provided 4 incubators but that does not suffice. The hospital also lacks some types of medicines.

In this context, a member of the Health Committee in Avrin and al-Shahba, Dr. Azad Sabri spoke to ANHA agency about the treatment of the people in the hospital and the problems they face.

Dr. Sabri said "We, as the Health Committee, have organized all the medical staff in al-Shahba canton to treat the patients. We fight with our people in al-Shahba. Every day 600 to 700 patients go to the hospital, but we suffer during the treatment of some patients because of the lack of medicines and equipment,"

According to Sabri, the hospital provides its services free of charge, but the increase in the number of patients puts a great pressure on the hospital amid the lack of assistance from the organizations, where only the Kurdish Red Crescent helps us.
