Coalition States' meeting to discuss mercenaries' situation detained by SDF

After the meeting that gathered the members of the International Coalition to fight IS in Syria and Iraq, the Canadian Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan said that the fate of 700 IS mercenaries jailed in Syria will be determined by the countries they belong to.

Sky News quoted from the Canadian Defense Minister after the meeting that gathered defense ministers and officials from 13 member states in Global Coalition on Thursday in Chelsea near Attawa, as Sajjan assured that the countries will determine the fate of 700 IS mercenaries detained in Syria. Sky News quoted from Sajjan saying, "All the countries must follow up the mechanism specialized to that."  

He added, "Great efforts made in the detention centers to make sure that they are suitable for Western standards."

While the American Defense Minister James Mattis said that the 700 mercenaries are detained to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and they belong to about 40 countries.  

Some countries are fear about spreading extremism in their prisons after transferring the mercenaries to them. While Mattis said that SDF are not able to arrest those mercenaries for a long time.

The co-chair of the External Relations Office in the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria Abdul Kareem Omer said that SDF fighters managed to arrest 795 foreign mercenaries in addition to 548 wives of the mercenaries who are also foreign with 1,248 children, noting that they are from the origins of 46 countries in the world.

Omer stated that the countries get out of their responsibility towards receiving their citizens, assuring that there are meetings and discussions held about repatriating those mercenaries to their states.
