The Culture and Art Committee of al-Raqqa Civil Council is working to restore the cultural life to the city of Raqqa, after it has been suppressed under destruction and rubble, through the opening of the Cultural Center in al-Raqqa, rehabilitating the archaeological sites and offices and supporting the artists and intellectuals by holding seminars that revive culture and heritage.

The Committee did not limit itself to cultural activities, but it documented some archaeological sites to protect them from subversive works, especially the Old Wall and al-Raqqa Museum, and also repaired the brick kilns.

On the other hand, the Culture Committee prepared for the opening of a public library in the city. The Committee's aim was to obtain 100 thousand books. The number of books obtained so far has reached 15,000 books, and they were transferred to the Culture and Arts Center which will be opened in the coming days.

In addition to the national library, a plastic art gallery will be opened to attract many artists who were in al-Raqqa and forced to abandon their art and profession. The Committee also rehabilitated Bor Saeed Library which had been the largest cultural stock and was burnt by IS, where some books have been provided to the library beside books that were hidden by the owner of the library.

The co-chair of the Culture and Art Committee in al-Raqqa Civil Council Hassen Mustafa talked about the most important works carried out by the Culture and Art Committee since its formation and said, "We participated in many cultural events on more than one level, communicated with many artists and poets and opened exhibitions for the plastic artists. Our aim is to revive al-Raqqa's heritage through the formation of a public heritage band, composed of artists and those who have the interest in the heritage field.
