Activities to develop children’s capacity in al- Hasakah

On June 19 and after the end of the school year, the Education Foundation inaugurated recreational and capacity development courses for children in the schools of Jan Hajjar in al-Salihia and Ali Baker in al-Kallasa neighborhood in al-Hasakah city as the city was divided into two sections, one of them for the children of the eastern section and the other is for the children of the western section.

The children learn how to play on the tambour, the violin, and the guitar instruments. They also develop the talents of the children who interest in handicrafts and singing. The children are also taught taekwondo and other games.

In order to spread the mother tongue and to teach all the children their language, the Education Foundation in al-Hasakah decided to include the Kurdish language classes in these training courses as these exercises are given by specialized teachers in these fields. Moreover, these activities are provided to the children by free.

These courses are delivered to the children between the ages of 6 and 15, and with four to five hours per day, except for Friday and Monday.

In an interview with ANHA on the summer activities at Ali Bakr School Baian Farhan said, "We have asked for the opening of this institute for the children to educate them and develop their talents and abilities. There is a great turnout by the children to these courses and recreational activities we offer."

She noted that at the request of the children's parents, they added the Kurdish language to the activities because some of the children are relatively weak in the Kurdish language.

She said, because of the lack of time, each child is entitled to choose one activity for a limited period of time.

For his part, the administrator of the activities of the school of Jan Hajjar Biwan Mohammed Khair said that their goal of these activities is to keep children from the negative atmosphere of war experienced in the area, and to ensure that they would use their time in the capacity that would develop their talents instead of playing in the streets.

The children also expressed their joy and happiness for coming to the institute and learning the talents they love, and thanked the teachers for their cooperation.
