The Eritrean president appointed a new ambassador to his country in Ethiopia in a move to end the war and differences between the two countries.

Sputnik quoted from from the Eritrean Minister of Media that the Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki appointed Semere Russom the current Minister of Education as the Eritrean ambassador to Ethiopia.

This step came to end the war and disputes between the two countries that have lasted for 18 years.

The Eritrean minister pointed out that Russom will retain his ministerial position alongside his role as ambassador to Eritrea in Addis Ababa.

Semere Russom had served as Eritrea's ambassador to the United States and the governor of the central area during the past several years.

On Monday, the Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki reopened his country's embassy in Ethiopia which remained closed after severing the diplomatic relations.
